Why Homeschool? - How can it help my family?

Let’s start at the beginning and talk about why you should homeschool.  I have talked to numerous families and we can all have a different reason but I am going to discuss some of the most popular.

Maybe you have a gifted child or a child that needs some extra help.  Homeschool is ideal for this because you can customize your child’s education to fit their needs.  You are able to adjust the difficulty level of your lessons based on your child’s needs.  So if you have a student that is gifted in math you can raise the level of math that you give him.  If you have a child struggling in spelling you can find alternative ways to help them learn their words.

Some parents choose to homeschool so they can have more control over what their children are learning.  In today’s society it can be scary to find out what they are learning in public school.  Some may say they are making our children grow up to fast.  And the scariest thing of all is that some of the worst things they are learning are coming from other children.  It is much easier to control the type of people your children are exposed to if you homeschool.

Others choose to homeschool to simply give their children a better education.  With everything that is available to us now we can give our children a more well-rounded education in everything including electives.  There are ways our children can earn college credits while still at home and we can offer more classes that interest our children.

Your reasons may be one of these or several.  My reasons I would have to say is all of the above.  I had a child struggling in school, and a couple not being challenged.  I had a child being exposed to bullying.  And most of all I want to maximize these educational years.  Our world is changing so much and I want my kids to have a jump start on their adult life.  Not by making them grow up to fast but by educating them at a higher level then their peers.  Our goal is give our children the opportunity to have an associate’s degree and working on a bachelor's by the time they would have graduated from high school.  Also to expose them to several careers so they are able to make a well-educated decision on what they want to do as adults.

I would love to hear what some of your reasons are for homeschooling or looking at the option of homeschooling for your family.
